Knee Arthritis
Arthritis is inflammation of one or more of your joints.
It is usually categorized by pain, swelling, and stiffness. Any joint in the body can develop arthritis, however the weight-bearing knee joint is particularly susceptible to arthritis.
Osteoarthritis Knee
There are many different forms of arthritis, however the most common is osteoarthritis, which occurs when the cartilage that acts as a cushion between bones begins to break down. This can cause the bones at the joint to rub against one another, leading to pain, inflammation, and stiffness. It can also adversely affect the structure and function of your knee.
While arthritis typically develops during adulthood, children can also develop arthritis in their joints, including the knees.
People who have developed knee arthritis may find it difficult to perform common, everyday activities, such as walking or climbing stairs.
Dr. David Hovis of the Knee Institute at ORTHOKnox can provide an accurate diagnosis, including the kind of knee arthritis you have, as well as recommend a treatment plan that can help manage your pain and get you back in action.
